Why We Exist
The luxury handbag market is full of noise — overhyped influencer posts, fake "reviews" written by people who've never touched the bag, and counterfeits that are getting harder to spot every year. We started The Handbag Authority because we were tired of it.
We're based in Panama City, Florida — not a fashion capital, not a luxury boutique district. We're regular people who love beautiful bags and believe that loving fashion shouldn't require being deceived or overpaying. Our mission is simple: give every woman the knowledge to buy with confidence, whether she's spending $150 on a Fossil tote or $15,000 on a Hermès Birkin.
What We Cover
The luxury handbag market spans a wide range — from attainable brands like Coach and Kate Spade to true investment pieces from Chanel, Hermès, and Louis Vuitton. We cover all of it:
- →Brand Reviews: Detailed looks at construction quality, hardware, leather sourcing, resale value, and who each brand is really for.
- →Authentication Guides: Step-by-step tutorials for spotting fakes on Coach, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Prada, and more — with photo comparisons.
- →Investment Analysis: Which bags hold value, which appreciate, and which are hype that fades. Our handbag price index tracks resale trends over time.
- →Deal Finding: We track Amazon, Fashionphile, The RealReal, and department store sales to surface the best prices on authenticated pieces.
- →Pre-Owned Buying Guides: How to buy pre-owned safely, what to look for, which resale platforms are most trustworthy, and how to negotiate.
Our Editorial Standards
We have a simple rule: we only recommend what we'd actually buy or have bought ourselves. We don't accept payment for positive reviews. When we include affiliate links (clearly disclosed), it never influences what we write — the commission is the same whether we say something is great or terrible.
Our authentication guides are built from firsthand examination of genuine and counterfeit pieces, cross-referenced with authentication communities and verified resellers. We update them when counterfeiters improve their techniques, which means our guides stay current.
We are not affiliated with any of the brands we review. We are not a resale platform. We have no financial stake in you buying any particular bag — our only incentive is keeping your trust.
Who We Are
We're a small team of handbag enthusiasts based in the Florida Panhandle. Our backgrounds are in fashion retail, luxury resale, and consumer journalism. Between us, we've handled thousands of bags across dozens of brands, and we've gotten burned enough times in the pre-owned market to know exactly what to look for.
We believe the best handbag is the one that fits your life, your budget, and your aesthetic — not the one that's trending on Instagram this week. That philosophy shapes everything we write.
